Our Home (and my job)

In case you were wondering after the last post how much snow we had, take a look at our house.

In other news, this coming March I will have been at my job for 3 years. Because I have been in school for most of my life, this is the longest job I have held. I am happy to report, though, that I really enjoy what I do. At present, my boss and I are the only attorneys in our firm, and we largely practice insurance defense litigation. Actual trials, however, are not commonplace because most cases end in settlement. Just last week though, my boss finished up a two week trial. Unfortunately, I was pretty busy with other matters, so I did not get to watch very much of the testimony. The case involved a widow suing two product manufactures, alleging their product caused her husband's death. The jury returned a defense verdict (meaning the plaintiff failed to prove her case and recovered nothing). There is no better result than that, and I for one am glad to know that today's jurors can still apply common sense and not fall prey to the victim mentality or the idea that businesses can afford to pay judgments so why not award some money. On that note, I will leave you with a bit of humor (even I can enjoy a good lawyer joke).

" Amazing Courtroom Questions

Was it you or your brother who was killed in the war?

The youngest son, the twenty-year-old, how old is he?

Were you alone or by yourself?

So you were gone until you returned?

How long have you been French Canadian? "

Lawyers (P. Reagan Ed., Andrews McNeel Publishing 2004).

I'm glad none of you have access to transcripts containing some of my less than articulate questions.

Yeah, it's pretty hillarious watching her try to walk in it!

Haha! Love those questions. I guess that's what happens when you follow the rule of never asking a question you don't already know the answer to. LOL...

I can't believe it's been three years--I remember when you got that job!

Those are really funny! :) I'm glad you like your job. You wouldn't believe it, but we have snow now, too! Just started last night.
