December 2008

Since I neglected to update last month, this post will endeavor to bring you up to date on our household up to Christmas. I'll upload some pictures from Christmas later.

For me, December flew by! I spent the first 2 weeks of the month (which were also my last 2 weeks of maternity leave) diligently potty training Kerensa. She had been a sporadic pottier at best, so I finally decided I need to be a bit more proactive. We made a chart, and she not only got to put a sticker on her chart when she went but she also got a "treat" of reese's pieces. I think she deliberately held back emptying her bladder so she could get another sticker and treat a few minutes later. It seemed like we were spending the majority of our time in the bathroom! I'd like to say she's a pro by now, but we're still working on it. We're onto our third chart, although we've pretty much abandoned the candy every time. I tried to change over to a sticker for a whole day of staying dry, but that seemed to cause some backsliding.

Ryan took the baton on staying home for the last two weeks of the month, and the transition has been relatively painless. He is definitely enjoying more time with the kids, but I keep getting in the way! On my third day back to work, it started snowing and snowing and snowing! We got almost 20 inches in 24 hours. No one could get anywhere the following day, and that is really saying something for this area. If that weren't enough, we have continued to get regular snow. For the month of December, the Spokane area received 52 inches of snow, which is usually what one would expect to see for the year. I've therefore worked from home a number of days in order to avoid the hazardous conditions and actually have more time to work. One day it took me an hour just to get to the office!

As for Ryan, he keeps wishing for a snow blower. Before this year, we've never thought we needed one because our driveway is not that long. However, when you have to shovel your driveway 3 times in one day and keep having to shovel day after day, your limits get tested! We also have to keep our back deck clear along with an area for Sadie to do her business. One of our neighbors has helped out a few times, and we had to hire someone to move the enormous berm once the plows finally made it to our street. The snow on either side of our drive is now so high, you can't see over it to pull onto the street. These pictures don't really do it justice, but will give you an idea.

Brennan also turned 2 months old in December. At his checkup, he weighed in at 13.2 pounds and 24 inches long. He really did not like the shots, but stopped crying the instant I picked him up. We've had to move into 3 to 6 month clothes, and he is just growing so fast! I think it took Kerensa until around 5 months before she reached this weight.

As always, here are some recent pictures:

Glad to get a post from you! The pottytraining can be a very slow and exhausting process. The most important advice I can give you is to be consistant with the training and not to force the issue if she doesn't feel like pottying. But just be patient - she'll get it!

Glad to hear from you guys. I can't believe that baby is two months old! We've got to get over there to visit you guys! (Of course, the weather has to cooperate for that to happen...lol!)

Wow, the snow is amazing! I can't imagine having that much--you know how it is in AR! It is an icy day here; we got freezing rain yesterday. The roads are clear though, just frozen on trees, grass, and cars.
